CASE NO. J-2026-135395

Leona v. Her sister

🌻 Hon. Beatrice Holloway presiding · Filed June 13, 2026

The dispute

She announced her pregnancy at my wedding rehearsal dinner.

Plaintiff's argument
She knew we had been trying for two years. She knew. She stood up at my rehearsal dinner and said "I have my own announcement to make!" She is six weeks pregnant. The room shifted. My mother started crying with joy. People came to congratulate her. I gave a toast I had practiced for a month, fifteen minutes later, to a room that was still thinking about her.
Defendant's argument
It was the only time the whole family was in one room. I did not want to do it over text. I was excited. I am not allowed to be happy because Leona is sensitive about timing?
VERDICT
In favor of Leona.

Ruling for Leona, because her sister chose the wrong room and she knew exactly what she was doing.

The Court's reasoning

Child, you knew. Six weeks along means you had options — a phone call, a coffee, a text, even a whisper in the parking lot. 'The whole family was in one room' is not a reason, sweetheart, it's an excuse dressed up in a bow. Your sister was getting married the next day. Your news could have waited forty-eight hours without that baby knowing the difference. Being excited doesn't give you the right to borrow somebody else's occasion.

Findings of the court
  1. I.I. The defendant was aware of plaintiff's two-year struggle to conceive. This is not disputed.
  2. II.II. Six weeks pregnant is early enough that a two-day delay causes no harm to anyone.
  3. III.III. Standing up and saying 'I have my own announcement' at a rehearsal dinner is a choice, not an accident.
  4. IV.IV. The room shifted. The toast landed flat. The damage was real and specific.
  5. V.V. Excitement is not a defense. It is a feeling, not a permission slip.
Awarded “damages”
To the Plaintiff:
Your sister will write you a handwritten letter — not a text, not a DM — acknowledging that she stepped on your moment. She will also plan and host a dinner, just the two of you, where she lets you talk about your wedding for the whole evening without once mentioning her pregnancy. She can be proud of that baby every other day of her life.

So ordered, this 13th day of June, 2026.
