Leona v. Her sister

She announced her pregnancy at my wedding rehearsal dinner.

“She knew we had been trying for two years. She knew. She stood up at my rehearsal dinner and said "I have my own announcement to make!" She is six weeks pregnant. The room shifted. My mother started crying with joy. People came to congratulate her. I gave a toast I had practiced for a month, fifteen minutes later, to a room that was still thinking about her.”

“It was the only time the whole family was in one room. I did not want to do it over text. I was excited. I am not allowed to be happy because Leona is sensitive about timing?”

Child, you knew. Six weeks along means you had options — a phone call, a coffee, a text, even a whisper in the parking lot. 'The whole family was in one room' is not a reason, sweetheart, it's an excuse dressed up in a bow. Your sister was getting married the next day. Your news could have waited forty-eight hours without that baby knowing the difference. Being excited doesn't give you the right to borrow somebody else's occasion.
